I really love all kind of night photography. Back in the times of film, it had always that “uncertain” result, and that was the most interesting part of it. Now with digital, “the thrill is gone” (as BB King says), because you have the results right here/right now, you don’t have to wait to develop the film, then print paper… all that vinegar smell !! Photography was almost like an Alchemist process.

In this case, a night battle between Man and Machine, I was particularly interested in all the dust coming out of the road being destroyed by this huge machine, plus, all the possibilities of movement from Man, Machine and/or the environment.

Regarding the 3 “R”s, I always prefer the Reuse one, since generally you don’t have to use any energy in transforming the item. In this case, I’m re-using a defunct flat monitor found on the street; just opened it, took all the inside parts out, cut mirror (found by chance on the street too) to size, assembled again, and installed it in the bathroom, using Blue Tack to fix its base on the tiles.

I like the idea of giving a product, a creation, a design; a “second” chance, after being discarded. Plus, I’m saving it from going to the landfills.

Remember to choose Re-Use first.

I made this sculpture out of cement, used steel wire and bars to reinforce it, all around a styrofoam core. I started it last year, cut the core, and then abandoned it (busy with other stuff).

During our half-year break, I finished it. A really messy work, but ended up cool. Can’t wait to start another sculpture project….. IF I have spare time.
